The Document Examination Laboratory carries out Laboratory examinations of questioned documents (evidence), using state-of-the-art specialized equipment and procedures, according and based on ISO 17025 standards:
1. Examination of travel and other Identity Documents for the purpose of establishing their authenticity, for example:
- Passports and other travel Documents
- Identity Cards and other Identity Documents
- Driving licenses and other Automobile documents
- Residence Permits
- Schengen visas
- Any other kind of Document whose authenticity is being disputed
2. Examination of disputed stamps (ink, embossed) for the purpose of establishing their authenticity.
3. Examination of printed documents, texts, etc., for the purpose of determining the printing reproduction technique, as well as to determine whether they have undergone any alterations or modifications
4. Management and administration of the National Unit of the European Classified System F.A.D.O (False & Authentic Documents Online), which is an electronic database for the exchange of technical information between Experts, regarding security Documents
5. Providing testimony before the Court of Justice, regarding the scientific findings of the evidence examined
6. Providing expertise and consultancy
7. services, with regards to the definition of technical specifications and safeguards of newly issued Documents of the Republic of Cyprus, as well as other issues falling within the competence of the Laboratory.
8. Representation of the Republic of Cyprus in Committees and Working Groups of the Council of the EU
