The Aliens and Immigration Unit is responsible for the implementation of the Aliens and Immigration Law (chap.105 & Reg. 242/72 as amended by Law 22(1)). Taking into consideration the policy of the Government to further promote Cyprus as a tourist destination, the Unit conducts the necessary checks on aliens provided by Law, for the security of the Republic of Cyprus. Such checks are primarily conducted at the entry and exit points of the Republic as well as at the places where aliens reside all over Cyprus.

The major aims of the Aliens and Immigration Unit are to:

• Effectively control aliens at entry and exit points (Airports & Ports) of the Republic of Cyprus

• Combat irregular immigration and illegal employment of migrants

• Locate and apprehend irregular migrants and bring them before Justice

• Prevent irregular immigration to the territory of the Republic of Cyprus

• Check migrants who reside in Cyprus under any kind of permit

· Return of irregular migrants

· Detention of irregular migrants (Mennoyia Detention Center)
