Christophoros Mavromatis was born in 1962 and comes from Sotera and Gialousa in the Ammochostos District. He lived in Ammochostos up until 1974. He was recruited to Cyprus Police in 1990 and has served at various Departments and Services, including the Office for the Investigation of Financial Crime at Police Headquarters and the Criminal Investigation Department of Limassol Police Division. He has also served as Officer in charge of the Office for the Investigation of Financial Crime at Police Headquarters, Officer in charge of the Investigation Team for the collapse of the Financial System in Cyprus, as well as Assistant Director for Administration of the Department for Combating Crime, from 2012-2017. From 2017 up to December 2020 he was the Director of the Department for Combating Crime. On 16.12.2020 he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief of Police. He holds a degree in Economics from the School of Economics and Business (Economics University of Athens).
He has also attended many training courses in Cyprus and abroad relating to fraud, money laundering, corruption, terrorism, human rights, cultural heritage, as well as others.
Additionally, he has been a United Nations and European Union expert on corruption and fraud respectively. He has represented Cyprus Police at the European Committee MONEYVAL, the Anti-Fraud Coordination Service Committee regarding issues of fraud against the economic interests of the European Union, as well as at the Advisory Authority for Combating Money Laundering.
He is married with Nina Theodorou from Ypsonas and has three children: Alexandros, Neophytos and Demetra.
