Through the work it carries out in the town of Larnaca and its rural regions, Larnaca Police Division aims at combating serious and organized crime, new forms of crime, the spread in the use of addictive controlled substances, illegal gambling and betting, smuggling, burglaries, illegal immigration, illegal stay and illegal labour. Furthermore, it deals with cases of domestic violence and takes measures for the reduction of juvenile delinquency and traffic offences, especially fatal traffic accidents.
Moreover, Larnaca Police Division carries out motorized patrols in the city to prevent terrorist attacks, which cover predetermined locations such as points of common interest, premises of foreign interests as well as areas in the tourist area and shopping center where a large number of people, mainly tourists, commute. These patrols contribute to the maintenance of peace and security and limit the extent of criminality in both the town and its rural areas.
The Division is also responsible for policing vital installations and special areas which include Larnaca Marina and Port, Larnaca International Airport, special facilities at Vasilikon, Zygi private port, the buffer zone from Pyla to Athienou and the village of Pyla which is inhabited by both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.
