Mr Panicos Antoniou was born in Kambos in 1959. He was recruited to Cyprus Police in 1980 and after completing the Training Course for Recruit Police Constables, he was posted at the Mobile Immediate Action Unit where he served for quite a few years, especially at the Special Antiterrorist Squad and as member of the Leadership team of the Unit.
He was transferred from the Mobile Immediate Action Unit in 2003 at the rank of Chief Inspector, while serving as Deputy Commander of the Unit. He then served as Officer in charge of various Departments and Services of the Police, including at Larnaca and Paphos Airports and the Port and Marine Stations of Larnaca and Ammochostos.
After being promoted to the rank of Superintendent B, in March 2008 he was appointed Commander of the Mobile Immediate Action Unit. Subsequently, between 2010-2015 he served as Commander of Morphou Police Division and Commander of the Port and Marine Police. In 2012, besides his other duties, he was in charge of Security at the Conference Centre during the Cyprus Presidency of the European Union.
In March 2015, at the rank of Chief Superintendent, he was again appointed Commander of the Emergency Response Unit where he served until 16.12.2015 when he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief of Police. He has been appointed Assistant Chief of Police for Support.
He has attended numerous training courses and seminars in Cyprus and various countries abroad on police operational issues, specialising in Countering Terrorist Acts, Hostage Rescue, Crisis Management, Crowd Management, Airport Premises Security, Amphibious Operations and Vital Areas Security.
He is married and has five children.
