The mission of the Office of Human Rights is to monitor and implement the obligations arising from the decisions of various European Human Rights Organizations.

The Office also deals with the study and implementation of the recommendations of the Council of Europe's Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) and the suggestions made by other European, international and national organizations dealing with the protection of human rights in relation to the detention and living conditions of detainees in police stations and detention facilities for prohibited migrants, as well as the rights and handling of such persons. To this end, it carries out systematic checks / inspections and submits related reports with suggestions for improvement.

In addition, it cooperates with other Governmental Departments and Services, Independent Organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) on matters relating to detention conditions and the promotion of human rights, and makes recommendations to the Police regarding the application of the provisions of the Laws and Conventions, signed and ratified by the Republic of Cyprus.

Finally, the Office prepares and distributes relevant handbooks / brochures, organizes Seminars for the Raising of the Awareness of Police Members and conducts trainings in cooperation with the Police Academy of Cyprus for the training of Police members.
