Morfou Police Division was established in 1963 when Lefka Police Division, which operated during British Colonial rule and the early years of the Republic of Cyprus, became part of a Turkish enclave and ceased to operate. The Divisional Headquarters were therefore transferred from Lefka to Morfou and continued to operate from there until 1974, when Morphou was also occupied by Turkish troops.

Prior to 1974 Morfou Police Division policed an area of 12000 km² and an estimated population of 35,000. During this period the Division was made up of 10 Police Stations - Morfou, Lefka, Koutrafa, Evrychou, Kakopetria, Kato Chorio, Kambos, Xero, Pedoulas and Kato Pyrgos.

In 1974 1/6th of the Division’s territory was occupied by Turkish troops, including the small town of Morfou and 36 of the villages in the area. After 1974 the Headquarters of the Division were transferred to Pedoula Police Station. In 1978 however, it was relocated at Evrychou Police Station from which it operates today. Koutrafa Police Station was moved to Astromeritis while Kato Pyrgos Police Station – being isolated from the rest of the area - was transferred to Paphos Police Division. On April 17, 2006 a branch of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit was set up in the Division.

Moreover, on January 1st, 2007 the villages of Prodromos, Lemythou, Tris Elies, Kaminaria, Ayios Demetris and Paliomylos, which are part of Limassol District and had been policed by Platres Police Station, were transferred to Morfou Police Division and are now policed by Pedoula Police Station.
